The UN's Global Action Plan on Child Wasting aims to prevent, detect and treat acute malnutrition among children in the worst-affected countries through a multi-sectoral approach that addresses maternal and child nutrition, food, health, water and sanitation, and social protection systems. Five UN agencies -

  1. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO),
  2. The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR),
  3. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF),
  4. The World Food Programme (WFP) and
  5. The World Health Organization (WHO) -
Way Through

  1. Scaling up the coverage of nutrition services, including the prevention, detection, and treatment of acute malnutrition, to reach the most vulnerable children, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
  2. Improving the quality and accessibility of maternal and child health services, including strengthening health systems and addressing barriers to care.
  3. Increasing the availability and affordability of healthy diets for young children, girls, and pregnant and lactating women, including by improving food systems and addressing market failures.
  4. Improving water, sanitation, and hygiene services to reduce the risk of disease and promote healthy child development.
  5. Strengthening social protection systems, including cash transfers and food assistance, to support the most vulnerable families and communities.

It's also important to note that, a targeted and coordinated approach to reach the most vulnerable children and communities, including those affected by conflict and displacement, is crucial to effectively addressing acute malnutrition.
