World Toilet Day 2022 - " MAKING THE INVISIBLE VISIBLE"

World Toilet Day is an annual event that aims to raise awareness about the importance of proper sanitation and the global sanitation crisis. The theme for World Toilet Day 2021 is

" MAKING THE INVISIBLE VISIBLE"

We face a global sanitation crisis.
  • Today, 3.6 billion people are still living with poor-quality toilets that ruin their health and pollute their environment.
  • Inadequate sanitation systems spread human waste into rivers, lakes, and soil, contaminating the water resources under our feet.
  • Safely managed sanitation protects groundwater from human waste pollution.
  • Everyone must have access to a toilet connected to a sanitation system that effectively removes and treats human waste.
  •  The link between sanitation and groundwater cannot be overlooked.

Tanzania, like many other countries, celebrates World Toilet Day each year to raise awareness about the importance of proper sanitation and the global sanitation crisis.

In Tanzania, access to safe and clean toilets is a major challenge, particularly in rural areas where over 70% of the population lives. Many people in rural Tanzania do not have access to proper sanitation facilities and are forced to defecate in the open, which can lead to the spread of diseases and other health problems.

To address this issue, the Tanzanian government has implemented several initiatives to improve access to toilets and sanitation. For example, the government has launched a program to provide subsidies for the construction of pit latrines in rural areas and has also introduced measures to promote the use of composting toilets and greywater systems as more environmentally friendly alternatives. On World Toilet Day, Various organizations may campaign to raise awareness about the importance of proper sanitation and the challenges faced by people in the country who lack access to clean toilets. These events may include public talks, educational campaigns, and the construction of new toilets in an underserved area
